Gender equality benefits everyone. And yet at nearly every level of US government — whether in Congress, state senates, or mayoral offices — women politicians only hold about 20 percent of power. In Hollywood, it’s just as bad with women comprising only 18% of directors, writers, producers, executive producers, editors, and cinematographers working on the top 250 grossing films. In business it’s worse, with women CEOs making up just 6.4% of leadership at Fortune 500 companies. And the numbers are even worse for women of color.
To fix this imbalance, we’re working with Let It Ripple on the 50/50 movement. From equal opportunity to access to equal pay to much more, 50/50 Day is helping every day people become champions and active participants in the changes our world so desperately needs (learn more by visiting the website, watching the two-minute video, or following along with the #Gettingto5050 hashtag).
That’s why this week, we’re asking you to join us for the second annual 50/50 Day on April 26, 2018 by hosting your own 50/50 Day event. There are already 30,000 screenings taking place in companies, schools, classrooms, museums, and homes around the globe. Register online and get access to free feature films (including The Mask You Live In), discussion kits, a global live stream with experts in the field of gender equity, and action pledges. Together, we can create a more gender-balanced world where everyone can realize their full human potential.
Onwards,
