Sunday afternoon, a horribly familiar news story emerged. Another shooter had opened fire on civilians, killing 26, this time in a church. Further, he had a history of domestic assault.
More than one American woman a day is shot by a former or current partner. With the majority of mass shooters being men (98%), we have to challenge and overcome our culture of toxic masculinity. Being a “real man” cannot mean solving your problems with violence, treating women and girls as objects, or measuring your success via dominance, aggression, and control. We must change this status quo.
In order to do so, we need to address these dangerous narratives that perpetuate toxic masculinity. In other words, violent behavior at home cannot be normalized. For when it is, we all suffer. We’re asking you to join our Facebook LIVE screening of The Mask You Live In TODAY at 5 PT / 8 ET. Together we must dismantle harmful gender stereotypes and end domestic violence by taking action today.
