#NotBuyingIt: NY Daily News Objectifies Actresses

It doesn’t look like NY Daily News is interested in covering anything other than “The Other Woman” actresses’ bodies. The media source published a slideshow of the London premiere recently, yet it features anything but the movie. The slideshow objectifies the actresses, trivializes their sexual orientation and cosigns harassment.

Frankly, we’re #NotBuyingIt.

The first image of the slideshow (shown above) includes the caption,

“Cameron Diaz recently told Glamour UK that ‘all women have been sexually attracted to another woman.’ The actress certainly didn’t mind being grabbed by coastar Leslie Mann at the UK Gala premiere of ‘The Other Woman’ held at the Curzon Mayfair on April 2, 2014 in London, England.”

The phrase, “certainly didn’t mind being grabbed,” illustrates the pervasiveness of rape cultureFurther, the caption makes a tenuous connection between the image and Diaz’s statement about attraction, devaluing same-sex sexuality. The combination objectifies the actresses and undermines women as valuable beyond their looks.

We urge you to tweet #NotBuyingIt at @NYDailyNews and tell them to value women’s voices, actions, and accomplishments, over their beauty, sexuality, and age.
