Tomorrow, March 8th is International Women’s Day and we and our allies are celebrating the day by raising awareness of the incredibly important role women play in our society, especially in our economy. Women are approximately half of the population and do the majority of unpaid work in this country. And when we are paid, we make less money for the same jobs as men and end up with just pennies on their dollar.
We need to flex our economic muscle and demand more! That’s why this week, we’re encouraging you to participate in A Day Without A Woman by taking Wednesday off from paid and unpaid labor, avoiding shopping, and wearing red in solidarity.
And let’s not stop there. Take the day to tell companies you support that they need to do a better job supporting women. Join us in asking Amazon to change its ad algorithm to exclude hate-speech websites like Breitbart. Sign up to tweet at Amazon, call their customer support line (instructions above), and tell your friends to do the same. Together, we will build a more just and equitable society that provides equal opportunity regardless of gender, race, class, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, ability, or circumstance.
