Students who complete this curriculum will have an understanding of the following:
The three primary drivers of economic immobility and inequality in the U.S. (racism; corporate exploitation; gendered societal values)
How these three factors work together to produce economic immobility and inequality
Why these conditions exist in U.S. society—who benefits from economic inequality and who is harmed
Why economic mobility and equality are important in a democracy
What policies and cultural practices can improve economic mobility and reduce economic inequality
Actions students can take at the individual, community, and national level to address this issue
As educators, you play a crucial role in addressing social inequalities by empowering the next generation to take action. We applaud your dedication to making the world a better place, one lesson at a time!
WHAT’S INCLUDED
The Great American Lie Curriculum is available with the purchase of a School License, Workshop License, or an Annual Subscription. The curriculum can be used with or without the film. The curriculum provides up to eight weeks of 30 – 60 minute lesson plans to help students and workshop attendees develop the following:
Critical thinking skills to question our gendered values and their intersections with race, class, and circumstance
Increased awareness about the dangerous and deceptive gendered value messages embedded in economic rhetoric and narratives about the American Dream
A shift in consciousness to inspire more empathy, care, and collaboration toward combatting economic inequality and social injustices
